What is Reiki?

Reiki is a non-invasive Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by a light touch, or with the practitioner's hands placed just over the body.  Invisible to the eye, a "life force energy" or "rei-ki" (also known as "chi" and "prana") flows through all living things, including plants, animals, and people.  When a person's chi is high, we feel strong, confident, and ready to take on life's challenges. When it is low, we feel weak, and are more likely to feel sick.  We receive chi from the air we breathe, from food, sunshine, and from sleep.  It is possible for us to increase our chi with breathing exercises and meditation.

A disruption of chi may cause illness, disease, fatigue, anxiety, or discomfort.  Our bodies store our emotional responses physically, and often this leads to blockages in energy and disease.

As chi flows through a sick or unhealthy area, it breaks up the energy and washes away any unhealthy thoughts/emotions/blockages and allows normal healthy flow of chi to resume. Tissues, organs, and cells are nourished with chi and begin functioning in a balanced, healthy way.  The immune system can better protect our bodies when cleared of stress and energy blockages.

What Reiki Is and Isn't..

Reiki is safe, gentle, and can do no harm.  It can complement and enhance any medical treatments and is not intended to replace.

Reiki involves therapeutic light touch, and is not a massage.  There is no manipulation of the tissue.

Reiki is not a religion, and people of all faiths and beliefs benefit.  Whatever your beliefs, you are welcome here.

What is a Reiki Session Like?

A typical session is 60-90 minutes in length, with a brief discussion beforehand, to discuss the clients needs and intentions, and to answer any questions.  Client lays fully clothed on a treatment bed, with warm blankets and pillows for comfort. Light music or aromatherapy may be used to aid in relaxation.

With light touch or with the practitioner's hands just above the body, chi flows into the client.  Blockages are cleared, and the flow of chi is restored.  The uninterrupted reiki energy flow helps activate the natural healing processes in our bodies as well as to restore  physical and emotional well being. Improved sleep and a sense of calmness is common after a treatment.  Patients report a reduction in stress, anxiety, as well as other ailments.

As the chi is flowing, some say they feel tingling, waves, warmth, and a sense of peace.  Some state they see colors, feel clarity, or receive intuitive inspiration.  Each person experiences it differently, and even if no physical sensations are felt, be assured the reiki is clearing, and restoring.  Effects may be felt for several days.

Clients are encouraged to drink adequate water before treatments, and for 1-3 days after, to promote healing.
